American Idol Season 7 Premieres in Two Days!
It’s that time of year again, folks! The new season of American Idol is almost officially here and I can’t wait! My son and I both love watching American Idol together. He is only 6 years old, but he is a big fan.
The 2-night season premiere will be aired on FOX, Tuesday, January 15th, at 8/7 c. First up for audition cities will be San Diego, CA. These auditions were held back in July at Qualcomm Stadium.
Simon Cowell opened up and shared some details on Season 7 for a recent interview. Simon, who is well known for his candid responses, said the auditions were becoming “increasingly like torture”.
One previous American Idol winner’s brother tried out for the Season 7 show. Fantasia Barrino’s (the Season 3 winner) brother apparently didn’t inherit the musical talent genes because Simon said his audition was “absolutely dreadful”.
According to Simon, there are about eight very strong singers (4 male, 4 female) in the competition this year. He has his predictions on who will make it to the finals but he doesn’t have a feel yet for who the winner might be.
Simon said there were some “shockingly bad people” at auditions but he realizes you have to have these people in order to have an entertaining show. What has always amazed me is how these people that are really bad honestly think they can sing. Can’t they hear themselves? I would be totally humiliated to have to face people I knew (and even people I didn’t know!) if I embarrassed myself on national television as some of these people do.
Simon said that this year’s show will focus more on the Idol contestants and less on their interactions with the celebrity mentors. He believes that we will see an improved show this year.
Simon Cowell is the judge that everyone loves to hate. But the show would probably not be the success that it has been without him. Paula and Randy, we love you too but Simon’s brutal honesty and his “way with words” is what keeps people coming back for more!
